There are two coffee shops that mingle into one for me in this song. The first is The Black Pearl in Pismo Beach. I’m not even sure if it’s still there, but there was a lovely scent of patchouli mixed in with my memories (whether it was actually there or not, I can’t say). The other is Mr. Toot’s in Capitola. Whether it was sunny and glowing or foggy and salty, the sounds of tourists coming and going and seagull cries were ever present. I would walk in with my sandy feet and absolutely lose myself daydreaming about everything under the sun and well beyond.
lyrics
In the coffee shop
I lost my thoughts. Over the tabletop, They wandered away.
Behind the countertop There were some dreamy eyes. They saw right through my smile And burned a hole.
Sweet as honey, slow as molasses - My daydreams dominated by you.
And I remembered Another day gone by. The sunshine taste of time, The sand and the sea.
They came back to me. As I got up to leave, My senses all returned. The moment was gone.
Sweet as honey, slow as molasses - My daydreams dominated by you.
In the coffee shop
I lost my thoughts. Over the tabletop, They wandered away.
Zoom In Zoom Out is beautifully reflective. Mally allows herself to be so vulnerable, but the underlying flow shows an incredibly strong woman. I'm honoured to have had a part in it. Hazel Iris
